Gillette Ranger Tech 1941

My son-in-law found this in a thrift store today. It is a 1941 Gillette Ranger Tech. Gillette only made them in 1941 and 1946. (Break due to World War II). The 1941 has no end caps and writing on the band near the tip. The 1946 had end caps and no writing on the band.

Gillette only produced this razor for 6 months in 1941.

I will shave with it tomorrow.

Gillette New Improved

Shave of the Day
August 3, 2013

•Mama Bear Bay Rum soap
•EverReady boar brush
•Gillette New Improved razor (1924)
•Astra platinum blade (6)
•Pinaud Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum aftershave

Last day for the New Improved. It shaves like a dream. I don’t know how long my grandpa used it, but it was well worn when I acquired it in 1974.

I used it from 1974 through 1982, but I did not take it to college ( I used a Schick injector). It was not just the start of my collection, it was the start of my love for vintage razors and wet shaving.

Today’s shave includes Mama Bear soap and Pinaud VIBR. The nautical themed aftershaves are appropriate because I recall my grandfather as a boat builder and a boat captain.

The Astra blade is still performing well on shave 6.

Gillette New Improved Tuckaway vs. Traveler

The New Improved Tuckaway had a small handle and fit with a blade box in a case the size of a cigarette case.

The Traveler set included a full sized New Improved standard razor with a blade box and two tubes, one for soap and the other for a brush. The kit also included a mirror in a pocket in the lid.

Finally, a photo of the Tuckaway with an original Gillette blade.

Shaving with Grandpa’s New Improved

•Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender soap
•Kingsley badger brush
•Gillette New Improved razor
•Astra platinum blade (4)
•Mennen Skin Bracer aftershave

The New Improved gives a close and efficient shave. I love Lavender soap. Skin Bracer is a great way to finish a great shave.

Gillette New Improved (1924) Shave

Shave of the Day
July 31, 2013
Grandpa’s razor week

•Tabac soap
•Muhle badger brush
•Gillette New Improved razor
•Astra blade (3)
•Pinaud Clubman Club Royale aftershave

Day three of the New Improved. I am getting used to the way it shaves.

I see a lot of similarities with the short comb NEW.

The Astra continues to perform well.

Tabac is a great soap with a strong scent. The Clubman Club Royale pairs well with it.

Grandpa’s Razor Gillette New Improved

Shave of the Day
July 30, 2013
Grandpa’s Razor week

•Arko stick soap
•Kingsley badger brush
•Gillette New Improved razor (1924)
•Astra platinum blade (2)
•Arctic Frost Cooling Aftershave

I would classify the New Improved razor as aggressive. I got an extremely close shave yesterday. 14 hours after my shave, my face still felt like it does after just shaving with a Tech.

The razor is highly efficient. It also looks fierce, with a large blade gap.

Arko soap produces instant and abundant lather.

The Arctic Frost is from Walgreens and is similar to Aqua Velva.

Gillette New Improved. Grandpa’s Razor

Shave of the Day
July 29, 2013

•Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender soap
•Kingsley badger brush
•Gillette New Improved Tuckaway (1924)
•Astra Platinum blade
•Pinaud Clubman Razor

Today would have been my Grandfather’s 114 birthday today, and I am shaving with his razor. I have had this razor since 1974, and it was the beginning of my collection and my love for old razors and wet shaving.

The New Improved was Gillettes first major redesign of the double edged razor. Introduced in 1921, my razor is a Tuckaway, a travel razor with a short handle and a metal case which would fit easily in a pocket or a shaving kit.

As always, the TOBS Lavender produces a great lather, and I love the scent.

The Astra blade is one of my go to blades and it pairs well with the New Improved.

Clubman provided a great finish to this shave.

Shaving with Grandpa’s razor is a great way to remember him. Grandpa, you are still missed.

Gillette Tech

Shave of the Day
July 20, 2013

•Proraso green tube
•Muhle badger brush
•Gillette early fat handle Tech
•Feather blade
•Old Spice Musk for Men aftershave

The Gillette Tech was a workhorse for Gillette from1931 to 1973.

The Feather blade counteracts the mildness of the Tech.

The aftershave is vintage. Old Spice India still makes a musk, but I don’t know if is the same as this musk.

My bottle is the travel bottle.
