Gillette Standard Old Type

Shave of the Day
August 12, 2013

•Omega Shaving Cream
•Kingsley badger brush
•Gillette Standard (old type) 1917
•Gillette Silver Blue blade (3)
•Mennen Cooling Blue Skin Bracer aftershave

Back to the past; the Gillette old type Standard from 1917. This razor can dangerous, but used correctly, it is one sweet razor.

I am liking the Omega, but I still would pick the soap over the cream.

The Cooling Blue is a great finish to the shave.

Gillette Black Handle Super Speed

Shave of the Day
August 11, 2013

•Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender soap
•EverReady C40 Brush
•Gillette Black Handle Super Speed R2 (1971)
•Gillette 7 o’clock Platinum blade (1)
•Brut Dominant aftershave

A big jump from 1940 to 1971. The SuperSpeed was among the most ubiquitous of the Gillette DE line. By 1971, this could have been my first razor.

Easy to load, easy to use and easy to clean.

A great shave with the SuperSpeed and the Gillette 7 o’clock Platinum blade.

The TOBS Lavender produced a thick lather with a calming scent.

Finishing with Brut Dominant. The scent reminds me of Grey Flannel. It is probably too strong of a scent for work, so I am using it on weekends.

Gillette Milord Razor

Shave of the Day
August 10, 2013
•Proraso green tub soap
•EverReady boar brush
•Gillette Milord Razor
•Bluebird blade
•Brisk aftershave

Last day for the Milord, and what a great trial for a new (to me) razor. I have no complaints , and could survive with it as my sole razor.

The Bluebird blade performed so well that I probably could get a few more days out of it if I had to.

However, It is time to switch.

The Proraso is always refreshing, and I could use it daily.

Brisk is a Skin Bracer simile, but I find the scent to be even better.

Gillette Milord TTO

Shave of the Day
August 9, 2013

•Omega Shaving Cream:(
•Kingsley badger brush
•Gillette Milord razor
•Bluebird blade (6)
•Old Spice O S aftershave

I don’t like creams, but for the third time Amazon sent a cream when I ordered a soap. The invoice lists what I ordered, but they picked the wrong product. At least the Omega products are packaged identically, with the only difference being the word soap vs cream. Last time I got two tubes of Proraso when I ordered Tubs.

Enough complaining, the Omega was great. The Milord again performed well with no sign of pulling, even on the sixth use of the blade.

O S is a great finish to any shave. I love the citrus base. My supply is almost gone.

It’s Friday!

Gillette Milord 1940 Razor

Shave.of the Day
August 7, 2013
•Tabac soap
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•Gillette Milord razor
•Bluebird blade (4)
•Mennen Skin Bracer

The Milord continues to provide a great shave as I adjust my technique. The boar brush still has an odor, but eventually it will start to smell more like the soaps I use and less animal like.

I have broken in several brushes in the past, and they all take some time.

My shave finished with Skin Bracer, regular scent.

Milord, It’s a Razor

Shave of the Day
August 5, 2013

•Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender soap
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•Gillette Milord Tech TTO razor
•Bluebird blade
•Mennen Skin Bracer Dry Lime aftershave

Another great shave with the Milord. Just a tad more aggressive than a Superspeed. Not as aggressive as a red tip.

I don’t actively collect TTO razors, yet I have acquired quite a few, spanning 30 years or so.

Lavender is my favorite scent for soap. I have the TOBS and a refill for the DR Harris bowl.

Now to the finish. Dry Lime is a discontinued scent. Wonderful citrus scent.

Gillette Milord Razor (1940)

Shave of the Day
August 5, 2013

•D R Harris Windsor Soap
•EverReady C40 Boar brush
•Gillette Milord razor (1940)
•Bluebird blade (2)
•Aqua Velva Redwood aftershave

The D R Harris soap makes a great lather quickly. The brush was purchased perhaps 20 years ago, but today is its third use. Typical boar so new odor.

Second day with the Milord. Just a bit more aggressive than a superspeed.

The Aqua Velva pairs well with the Windsor. (Sorry that it is no longer available).

Make every day count!

Gillette Milord TTO Razor

Shave of the Day
August 4, 2013

•Pre De Provence soap
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•Gillette 1940 Milord razor
•Bluebird chromium ceramic platinum tungsten blade (1)
•Pinaud Clubman aftershave

First shave with this razor. Thought it was a Ranger Tech, but in gold, it is a Milord. The case is a Milord case.

Nice shave. Bluebird blade pairs well. Pre de Provence makes a great lather and has a great botanical scent. Clubman is a classic finish to any shave.

Happy Sunday!
